Mothers' Day is fast approaching and like many I am sure you are blank with ideas on how to spoil your mom. Let me tell you that there are very few people who need spoiling before your mom because she would sacrifice and has sacrificed many things for you and you will always be put first. Like Kim Kallie said, "No one has your back like your mother does".

What will I be doing this Mothers' Day? Well, it is my birthday weekend as well so I will be spoiling my mommy and myself with tickets to Mom and Me at the Grand Cafe.

Mom and Me is the second collaboration of mother and daughter duo, Judy Page and Kim Kallie. The first was 24 years ago to be exact and Kallie knows this because she was pregnant with her son at the time. Meeting Page and Kallie at the Mom and Me media lunch I could tell that their relationship is a fun one. They both have a relaxed aura about them and are full of jokes and laughs. To quote Page on how she would describe their relationship, " We are very close, but sometimes Kallie is the mother" she laughs. Kallie's daughter agrees and says her mom is definitely the boss. This tells me that the dynamic between the two is an open one and that Page probably raised Kallie to have a voice and an opinion of her own and respects her as an adult and views her as an equal. This must be why they were able to work so well together and put together a show that attracted the likes of former Idols musical director Johan Laas to come on board.

The show is called Mom and Me, but it definitely doesn't have a soppy girly feel to it so mommy's boys please bring your mom as well. It uses family as a link, but is more of a musical celebration than a sentimental piece. The duo will perform everything from jazz to contemporary music and will transport you on a journey around the world with music from Spain, Amsterdam and Paris. Add in a touch of theatre about their mother-daughter relationship and you have an hour of non stop entertainment and I haven't even gotten to the dinner part of the evening.

Hosted at The Grand Cafe and Beach in Granger Bay means you'll be privy to their new Winter menu. The Grand as its name suggest is grand, from the decor to the staff to the food. A restaurant that many have tried to emulate, but have failed to replicate the unique vibe and service.

Menu
Fish cakes, lemon aioli
Winter chopped salad (butternut, pumpkin seeds, feta)
Carrot and red lentil soup, garam masala
             .......................
Braised beef 'pot au feu'
Linefish, wild fennel and ginger sauce (roasted vegetables and mashed potato)
            ........................
Lime-chocolate tart, almond ice-cream

So this Mothers" Day you could buy your mom flowers or chocolates and spend a half hour or an hour with her before you return to your own life or you could really spend quality time with her and treat her to a dinner and show in the form of Mom and Me at the Grand Cafe in Granger Bay on the 10th, 11th and 12th of May. Oh, and please bring your dad along as well after all he was the one whose hand your mom was squeezing during labour haha. Bookings at: www.webtickets.co.za

Award Season is upon us and I am so excited to see what the stars will be wearing! Tonight is the Golden Globes and I've chosen a few looks for the actresses that I would style them in. I sourced dresses from my favourite designers, Marchesa, Zac Posen, Badgley Mischka, Vera Wang and J. Mendel. I predict the colours of the night will be shades of red and orange. Golden Globes Red Carpet on E! Entertainment followed by a Girls Spa Day tomorrow, life is good.

The band Civil Twilight returned to their home country of South Africa to perform in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. I attended the Cape Town gig at The Assembly and got to interview them backstage before they played to a packed crowed.

The band consists of four guys, who I can tell you from personal experience are real gentleman and true rock stars. Anyone want to join me as their groupies?
Starting out in their garage and church halls, they are now so successful in America that their music have been featured on TV shows such as One Tree Hill, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Harper's Island and my personal favourite, Vampire Diaries.

I interviewed Steven, Kevin and Richard. Read on to find out what they find attractive on a girl and if they're Team Stefan or Team Damon.

Steven McKellar

I was lucky enough to get on the guest list for Full Circle Model's Model Show-Off event thanks to owner Janez Vermeiren. It was held at The Reserve in town and there were models and photographers everywhere, one photog commented on my make-up, so a special shout-out to Suaad.D Artistry is needed.

Janez welcomed us and told us his and business partner, Paul Coetzee's approach to their boutique agency. Which was interesting to hear as it is not values you would expect from an agency or ones that you would find in the model industry.

After the Canal Walk meet and greet I was invited to the private SABC party for the cast of Days of our Lives. The event was held on a rooftop in Sea Point and it was amahzing!

Everyone wanted a piece of Arianne Zucker (aka Nicole), but luckily for me Janez Vermeiren (from Top Billing) helped me get an interview with her by guiding me right in front of her and stopping her conversation with three guys hahaha.

Arianne Zucker:
My favourite designer is...Nanette Lapore.
The most embarrassing outfit I ever wore was...I don't have one, I dress so well!! Just kidding.
I love to splurge on...Jeans, Shoes, Accessories
If I were to describe my style in two words I would say...casual, upscale
She was wearing a dress by a South African designer, but unfortunately couldn't pronounce his name.

It was difficult to get an interview Galen Gering (aka Rafe) as he was quite engrossed in a conversation with former Miss South Africa Joanne Straus, but I waited patiently and got my five minutes with him.

Galen Gering
My favourite designer is...Theory and Boss
The most embarrassing outfit I ever wore was...The one I'm wearing now. (He was wearing Drake Hogestyn's shirt (aka John Black) because all his shirts were creased.)
I love to splurge on...Plants for my garden.
If I were to describe my style in two words I would say...Not amazing

In October I did an internship at 2nd Take Clothing and enjoyed being back in the Public Relations vibe.

The cast of Days of our Lives were in town and I thought it would be a great idea to cover it for our online magazine. After four phone calls to different people I organized us press passes to the Canal Walk meet and greet, AaaahYeeeah.

The three actors doing the appearance was Arianne Zucker aka Nicole, Galen Gering aka Rafe and Drake Hogestyn aka John Black. They looked just as excited to see us as we were to see them, which is amazing because after years of being in the spotlight they remain humble.

Janez Vermeiren from Top Billing was the host and he truly is a rare guy. So friendly and sweet, something that our South African boys are definitely lacking AND he's hot!

Tie it up with a bow

Picture
Being a pre-school teacher I  feel that hair accessories are for little girls. I see them coming to school with their alice bands, cute pom-poms, clips and slides and bows and I think its just too adorable. For the longest time I've never worn hair accessories, the only time being when my hair was, for lack of a better phrase, dirty and I would tie it up with a pom-pom (elastic hair band), but now suddenly I was being inspired by little 4 year olds to give them a try. Out of all the different hair accessories that my munchkins wear, I fell in love with their bows. Bows are cute and cheeky and they give your outfit a playful look and can make even the most sexiest of vixens look sweet and innocent. So lets all put on our bows and go skipping through the park
tra-la-la-la-la.

Let me fix your bow tie for you ;)

Picture
Bow ties have been uncool for years until now. I blame the Hipsters for bringing them back. The Hipsters like them because they are old fashioned, they come in many different designs (so as to demonstrate uniqueness) and they haven't been main stream. Its like this quote that I read, “The majority of men who wear bow ties do so because the majority of men do not." (unknown).
It takes confidence to wear a bow tie because while it is a new trend it is not as common as you might think. A bow tie says to a girl that the wearer is charming, adventurous, fun and a romantic gentleman. Wow, that's a lot for one small piece of cloth to say, but a bow tie definitely makes a statement and the pattern/design that a man chooses says even more about him. My sister use to say that she would judge a guy by the kind of shoes he wore, I say a simple glance at his bow tie and you'll know everything you need to know. Except of course if he is single, but fear not, all you need to do is walk over and say, "Here, let me fix your bow tie for you" an easy peasy way to strike up a conversation and to suss out whether he is available. Thank you Hipsters for making boys a little easier to figure out and to approach.
(Definition of a Hipster: Somebody who self-expresses in a way that doesn't fit into previously accepted social or subcultural categories.)

MEOW!

Picture
When I was in Turkey last year I discovered the 'Pussy Bow Blouse'. Until then I hadn't even heard a blouse being called that before. I was shopping when I found a white shirt with two pieces of material attached to it that you tie into a bow, I just thought,"Wow, what a fantastic shirt, got to have it". When I got home my sister-in-law said to me, "Ah, I see you bought yourself a Pussy Bow Blouse" and that's how I came to learn of this awesome item of clothing. Its chic and feminine and can add a soft touch to an edgy outfit. What I like the most about it is that it goes with everything. I wear mine with jeans, with shorts, with pants and with pencil skirts (which is a great look for the office). C'mon, tie that bow, take out those claws and lets take over this world. Meeeeeoooow!

Fringes or as they say in America, bangs, are the latest hair trend. They add a bit of extra cuteness to an otherwise ordinary haircut. Growing up I always had a full fringe until I watched the movie Clueless and then I decided I wanted to grow it out like Cher (Alicia Silverstone) so that I could toss my locks about and run my fingers through my hair just like her hehehe. Now in 2012 fringes are hot, with many celebs rocking the full, heavy look. It is a bit nerve-wrecking to cut bangs as you don't want it to be too short or skew or end up looking like a pre-school kid, but I think its worth the risk as a fun change to spice things up a bit. If you are really nervous about going all out then try a soft side swept fringe for a flirty look. Scroll down to see my DIY video on how to cut your own fringe/bangs.
